Followers of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” are familiar with the phrase “move that bus” but it’s not often fans, or even the show’s producers, hear the phrase “move that house!”
For crew members who joined the show this season, the idea of moving a house generated extra buzz around the neighborhood and set that they’ve already called home for a day and a half.
If the movers from Minot’s Huwe Housemover, Inc. needed motivation, they got it from volunteers donning blue shirts and voices that could rival cheerleaders.
As the house moved from atop its original foundation, the curtains in Grommesh family kitchen jostled along with it. Soon cast members Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo, Paige Hemmis and Eduardo Xol waved from the window.
“Move that house!” the crowd shouted as the house left its original location and headed south down Moorhead’s busy 8th Street. The home moved along a 16-mile route to its new spot in north Moorhead. It will be donated to another unsuspecting but deserving family.
So Fargo-Moorhead can look forward to, not only one, but two “Move that bus!” moments.
By Monday afternoon, heavy equipment had demolished the home’s foundation and hauled it away from the site in a number of trucks.
Overnight Monday into Tuesday, crews will start building a new foundation for a home on the site.
